Polish Language Proficiency
The state certificate examinations in Polish as a foreign language are standardized tests of Polish language proficiency for non-native Polish speakers and are held by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language. Candidates passing the examinations obtain a certificate indicating their level of proficiency in Polish. In order to pass the examinations, candidates have to receive positive results in each part of the test (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking, writing and grammatical correctness). There are currently three levels of examinations set according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, namely, B1, B2 and C2. (The State Certification Commission is in the meantime working on the introduction of examinations for the remaining levels (A1, A2 and C1). All foreigners and Polish citizens permanently residing abroad may take the examinations regardless if, where, how and how long they have prepared for the examination. People who on the examination day are at least 16 may sit the B1 and B2 examination. People aged 18 and more may take the C2 examination. The examination system for Polish as a foreign language was commissioned by the Polish Ministry of National Education and Sports.
