German Language proficiency

The GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT is the official qualification awarded by the CIEP and the French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside France in the French language. The GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT is an internationally recognized exam of German language ability. The GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT exam is tailored to the needs of adult students of German, regardless of whether they are inside or outside a German-speaking country.

The GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT is the result of a joint collaboration between the Goethe Institute, the Österreichisches Sprachdiplom (ÖSD), the Schweizer Erziehungsdirektorenkonferenz(EDK) and WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme gGmbH, later renamed telc GmbH (for The European Language Certificates).

The GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT are composed of 6 independent diplomas that correspond to the levels of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The 6 diplomas that make up the GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT are completely independent. This means that candidates can register for the examination of their choice, according to their level. At each level, 4 skills are evaluated: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
